New York, NY – March 12, 2016 – Triton Submarines, America’s leading builder of personal submersibles, and U-group Malta, jointly announce the display of the Triton 3300+/1 MD (Minimum Displacement), at the 112th Annual Dinner of the Explorers Club in the Waldorf Astoria in New York on March 12th 2016. The Triton 3300+/1 MD is Triton’s newest model, a compact, lightweight utility submersible designed as the ideal platform for a single pilot to use for video, salvage, rescue or other operations to depths of 3,300 feet (1,000 meters). Like Triton’s other submersible models, the Triton 3300+/1 MD features a pressure hull built of the world’s finest acrylic that allows its pilot to dive in air-conditioned comfort and safety.

This submersible has an all new design, incorporating an acrylic hyper-hemisphere for optimal viewing, and an aluminum pressure hull and structural framework for light weight, high strength and optimal safety. With a weight of just 4,400 pounds (2,000 kilograms), and dimensions of 6.5 x 5.6 x 6 feet (2 x 1.7 x 1.8 meters), this sub can be easily deployed from a yacht or support vessel.

The Triton 3300+/1 MD has been commissioned by U-Group Malta Ltd, and will be used in marine archaeology and scientific and historical research. U-Group Malta collaborates with educational and research institutions across the globe, such as the University of Malta, University of Messina, University of Lazio, the Welfare Enterprise of Kea, Oceanographic Institute of Monaco, Institute of Nautical Archeology and the Russian Geographic Society, and is currently working closely with Triton and the Explorers Club.

U-Group Malta will use the Triton 3300+/1 MD in conjunction with a larger submersible, the Triton 3300/3, a 3 passenger sub, in future expeditions planned for archaeological and scientific research of the shipwrecks of the ORP Kujawiak, SS Burdigala, as well as HMHS Britannic, HMS Perseus, and U-133. Equipped with multiple submarines, U-Group Malta can deliver an underwater experience like no other.

Because of the relatively small size and light weight of the Triton 3300+/1 MD, this fully functional submersible is being placed on display at the Explorers Club dinner, along with a 1/20th size model of U-Group’s much larger Triton 3300/3 sub. In addition, Triton will also show a virtual reality promotional clip, in which viewers can have the virtual experience of diving on the Great Barrier Reef with David Attenborough on a Triton 3300/3 submersible. All these displays are in keeping with the Explorers Club theme of Oceans, Current of Life, focusing on the oceans, one of the most important and least explored areas of our planet, and the last great frontier for exploration.
